Hyunjin's Hiatus Explained: Official Statements, Apology Letters, and Comeback Clues

Hyunjin's absence created immediate logistical hurdles during the filming of Mnet's high-budget survival competition, Kingdom: Legendary War. Prior to his hiatus, Hyunjin appeared in the initial 100-second introductory stage, which aired on April 1, 2021. Following that broadcast, Mnet complied with public sentiment and JYP's request, editing his future participation down to an absolute minimum and restructuring the remaining rounds.
Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N had to re-engineer their entire performance playbook. Stray Kids' signature choreography relies on complex physical formations, acrobatic transitions, and eight-way weight distribution. In under three weeks, the group reworked choreographies for complex routines like "Side Effects" and "God's Ddu-Du Ddu-Du".
The seven active members bore an immense physical burden, yet the tactical shift worked. Stray Kids took first place in the competition on June 3, 2021. Winning the show as a seven-member unit proved the group's performance resilience while preserving the commercial infrastructure for Hyunjin's eventual reintegration.
