How to Use Samsung Self Clean Washer: Step-by-Step Instructions & Pro Tips
Operating the cycle takes three buttons, but preparation matters. Follow these operational steps to ensure your machine completes drum sanitization without throwing error codes:
First, inspect the drum interior. Remove every stray sock, coin, or hair tie. The tub must be completely vacant. Running this routine with clothing inside can damage both the fabrics and the drive motor due to aggressive spin profiles.
Second, leave the detergent drawer completely empty. Samsung explicitly designs these routines for cleaning without detergent tablets or standard liquid detergents. Adding regular high-efficiency (HE) detergent causes massive oversudsing because no clothing fibers exist inside the tub to absorb the lather. If you deal with severe mineral buildup or hard water scale, Samsung permits liquid chlorine bleach added only up to the maximum fill line of the bleach compartment on select models, but never mix bleach with chemical descalers.
Third, turn the selection dial to Self Clean or Self Clean+. If your machine features a dedicated button instead of a dial position, press it firmly. Press and hold the Start/Pause button to engage the door lock and initiate the cycle.
Fourth, leave the door closed until the machine chimes. Front loaders lock the door latch magnetically. Do not attempt to force the handle open while the water is heating.
