How to Connect a Ps4 Controller to Nintendo Switch 2: Complete Setup and Adapter Guide
The biggest adjustment for most players comes down to face-button placement. Nintendo consoles orient their confirmation button (A) on the right and cancellation button (B) on the bottom. Sony does the exact opposite: Cross sits at the bottom, and Circle sits to the right.
By default, an adapter maps buttons purely by geometric position. Pressing Cross on your DualShock 4 sends a "B" input to the Switch 2, while Circle acts as "A". For gamers switching back and forth between systems, this creates immediate muscle memory friction in menus. Fortunately, Nintendo’s system menu offers full software button remapping under Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Change Button Mapping. Alternatively, you can use 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software on a PC to permanently remap the internal profile of the dongle itself.
Gyro motion controls function far better than many expect. The DualShock 4 contains a responsive three-axis gyroscope and three-axis accelerometer. Both the 8BitDo and Mayflash units translate these sensor readings cleanly into the Pro Controller's motion protocol. Aiming bows in open-world adventures or fine-tuning trajectory in competitive shooters works fluidly with minimal tracking drift.
There are missing features you must accept. The 3.5mm headphone jack on the DualShock 4 will not transmit game audio when paired through an adapter, as the USB handshake does not carry high-bandwidth audio streams. Additionally, you cannot wake the Switch 2 from Sleep Mode by pressing the PS button; you must press the power button on the console hardware first.
