How 'The Rabbit Got Me' Took over Social Media: from Niche Tiktoks to Global Movement
By Maya Lin-Takahashi
Q1: What does "the rabbit got me" mean on TikTok?
A1: It means an algorithmic recommendation system successfully trapped you into watching endless related videos, causing you to lose track of time and go far off-track from what you originally intended to do.
Q2: Is "the white rabbit got me" tied to online conspiracy theories or alternate reality games?
A2: No. While the historical imagery of the white rabbit has occasionally been co-opted by fringe conspiracy boards or alternate reality games, the viral 2026 trend is entirely mainstream internet slang referencing algorithmic feeds, doomscrolling, and late-night social media binges.
Q3: How does this phrase differ from the classic "down the rabbit hole" idiom?
A3: Classic usage implies an active, voluntary pursuit of research or odd trivia. "The rabbit got me" switches the agency to the algorithm, presenting the viewer as the target caught by an engineered platform loop.
