Hollister Black Friday Price Tracker: Actual Markdowns Vs. Typical Weekend Sales
By Sarah Jenkins
Examining physical receipts and customer transaction records strips away marketing rhetoric. Over three consecutive quarters, our receipt analysis focused on three staple items: the oversized fleece hoodie, high-rise curvy jeans, and down-alternative winter puffer jackets.
During an average late September promotion, oversized hoodie markdowns settle comfortably between $29 and $34, down from an original sticker price of $54.95. On Thanksgiving night, those exact same SKUs dipped to $24.99 across most digital carts. That represents an extra savings of roughly $5 to $9, a tangible drop, but hardly the dramatic financial windfall promised by 50%-off sitewide percentage off discounts.
The story shifts when reviewing curvy denim doorbusters. Hollister’s signature stretch denim generally maintains strict pricing discipline throughout October, rarely sinking below $39.95 unless relegated to odd sizes in the back clearance bin. During peak holiday promotional windows, these jeans dropped directly to $25 across core washes and standard sizing runs. For denim loyalists, Thanksgiving week offers quantifiable financial advantages over normal weekend promos.
Outerwear mirrors this denim trend. Winter coat clearance events do not begin in earnest until late January. For shoppers needing heavy insulation ahead of sub-zero temperatures, the seasonal doorbusters slash heavy parkas and mock-neck puffers from standard $120, $140 price bands down to $49, $60. In these high-ticket brackets, the percentage discounts represent massive real-dollar retention.
