Rachel Reid published Heated Rivalry in 2019 under Carina Press, introducing readers to Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander. The fictional narrative tracks two rival professional hockey superstars whose intense public animosity conceals a decade-long clandestine affair. The book exploded across BookTok and romance reading communities, eventually cementing itself as a touchstone of the sports romance subgenre.
As the international audience for Asian Boys' Love (BL) dramas expanded rapidly through 2024 and 2025, fan communities began producing "concept edits." Enthusiasts cut together clips of actual NHL games, Canadian television projects, and actors like Alexander Skarsgård or Nicholas Galitzine, layering them with dramatic voiceovers and indie pop scores. When these TikTok and YouTube shorts racked up millions of views, automated scrapers took notice.
Pirate streaming directories like KissKH operate primarily on algorithmic crawlers. These bots scrape trending entertainment queries, community tags, and video titles across social media. When automated scripts detected surging interest around "Heated Rivalry drama episode 1," they automatically generated landing pages and URL slugs to capture organic traffic, regardless of whether a filmed production actually existed.
