From Manga Pages to Global Gaming Crossovers: the Enduring Legacy of Escanor’s Pride
By Elena Rostova
Q1: What episode does Escanor say "Who decided that?" in the anime?
A1: Escanor speaks his famous line in Season 2, Episode 19 of the anime series (titled The Meliodas vs. The Ten Commandments / The Lion's Sin of Pride depending on localization), adapted from Chapter 186 of the Nanatsu no Taizai manga.
Q2: Why didn't Estarossa's Commandment of Love affect Escanor?
A2: The Commandment of Love completely immobilizes anyone who carries hatred in their heart toward Estarossa. Escanor was completely immune because he felt zero hatred toward the demon; he felt only profound pity for an opponent he considered vastly weaker than himself.
Q3: How did Escanor get the Sunshine Grace if he was only human?
A3: Sunshine was originally created by the Supreme Deity for Mael of the Four Archangels. Following Mael's apparent death and memory alteration by Gowther during the Ancient Holy War, the Grace drifted without a host for 3,000 years until it inexplicably bonded with Escanor upon his birth into the Kingdom of Castellio.
Q4: Who are the voice actors for Escanor across different languages?
A4: Escanor is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita in the original Japanese anime adaptation and by Kyle Hebert in the English Netflix dub. Both actors received widespread acclaim for capturing the distinct split personality between his timid night form and arrogant daytime persona.
