From Gabe Duncan to College Auditoriums: Bradley Steven Perry's Surprising Career Pivot
Leaving the Disney system requires a calculated decoupling. Actors who remain too closely tied to youth networks often struggle to secure auditions for mature prestige projects. Perry chose an incremental route, seeking out network comedies that valued his multi-camera experience while shifting him toward broader adult ensembles.
In 2019, Perry joined the recurring cast of ABC's period sitcom Schooled, the spin-off to Adam F. Goldberg's hit series The Goldbergs. Set in the 1990s at William Penn Academy, Perry played Alec, a high school athlete interacting with teachers played by Tim Meadows and AJ Michalka. The role stripped away the exaggerated physical comedy of children's television, allowing Perry to work within the dry, grounded rhythms of single-camera network comedy across multiple episodes in Season 1 and Season 2.
Film opportunities followed. In 2020, Perry appeared in the Adam Sandler ensemble comedy Hubie Halloween for Netflix. Directed by Steven Brill, the feature placed Perry alongside a veteran comedy roster including Kevin James, Maya Rudolph, Ray Liotta, and Steve Buscemi. Playing Cormac, an antagonistic teenager involved in town pranks, Perry demonstrated an easy comedic rapport with adult comedy stalwarts. The production confirmed his viability within high-budget commercial features outside the Disney banner.
