From 2006 Murders to Total Freedom: the Full Jasmine Richardson Timeline
The relationship began in an underground punk and goth subculture in southern Alberta. Marc and Debra Richardson had disciplined their twelve-year-old daughter upon discovering she was romantically involved with Jeremy Steinke, an unemployed twenty-three-year-old high school dropout. Steinke frequented local music venues, claimed to be a three-hundred-year-old werewolf, and adopted the online persona "Runaway Devil." When Richardson's parents confiscated her computer and grounded her, the pair devised a plan to eliminate the obstacle to their relationship.
Steinke broke into the Richardson home armed with a knife in the early morning hours of April 23, 2006. He stabbed Debra Richardson in the basement before fatally wounding Marc Richardson after a fierce struggle. Jasmine Richardson cornered her eight-year-old brother, Jacob, in an upstairs bedroom. After Steinke ascended the stairs, Richardson slashed her younger brother's throat while Steinke completed the killing. Hours later, police discovered the three bodies, initially fearing Jasmine had been abducted before discovering incriminating messages on local library computers.
The investigation moved swiftly. Friends and acquaintances pointed detectives toward the couple's online correspondence on VampireFreaks.com, where Richardson had written about getting rid of her parents. Within twenty-four hours, police arrested both suspects in Leader, Saskatchewan, approximately 80 miles north of Medicine Hat.
