Festival Timeline: How Kimmel, Stewart, and Conan Pulled off Their Surprise Gig
By Elena Rostova
Q1: Was this the first time Conan, Kimmel, and Stewart played music together publicly?
A1: Yes. While all three hosts have participated in musical comedy sketches on their respective programs over the years, this was their first organized live performance as an independent cover trio on a major festival stage.
Q2: Why did The White Stripes stop touring after that 2009 Conan appearance?
A2: Meg White had been struggling with severe performance anxiety, which led to the cancellation of their late-2007 tour dates. The 2009 appearance on Conan’s farewell show was their final public performance before officially announcing the band's permanent dissolution in February 2011.
Q3: Did Jack White approve or react to the Netflix Is a Joke Fest cover?
A3: Jack White and Third Man Records have maintained close personal and professional ties with Conan O’Brien for decades. White celebrated the performance warmly, having previously supplied O'Brien with custom gear and personal blessing for Third Man archival collaborations.
