Two recurring narratives dominate search algorithms regarding Karim Benzema's family: his supposed blood kinship with Zinedine Zidane, and his brothers secretly orchestrating his multi-million-dollar transfers. Both are false.

The Zidane myth stems from shared identity and close personal affection. Both men were born in France to families originating from Algeria's Kabylie Berber community, Zidane in Marseille’s La Castellane, Benzema in Lyon’s Terraillon. When Zidane managed Real Madrid across two legendary spells between 2016 and 2021, Karim repeatedly referred to him as his "spiritual big brother." Zidane offered unwavering backing when the French Football Federation froze Benzema out of international play. That dynamic returned to global headlines when Zidane emerged as a leading candidate for the French national team post, prompting Benzema to once again publicly praise his "big brother." The connection is deeply fraternal, but purely cultural and professional.

The second persistent fiction centers on brotherly interference in transfer negotiations. Modern sports agency has seen brothers like Kylian Mbappé's or Jude Bellingham's parents act as official agents. Benzema’s brothers do not manage his contracts. Karim has worked through established representation, historically led by Karim Djaziri and later global sporting agencies.

The brothers do, however, operate as informal spokespeople. In January 2024, during a chaotic transfer window where European tabloids claimed Karim was desperate to leave Saudi club Al-Ittihad to engineer a return to Real Madrid, Gressy stepped into the narrative. Posting directly on social media, Gressy labeled the widespread reports "fake news," instantly deflating days of sensationalist transfer coverage across Spain and France. The intervention showed that while the brothers stay out of boardrooms, they guard the family narrative against media exploitation.
