Much of the confusion surrounding Benito's role stemmed from broader media buzz about the film's secret cameos. When Julie Bowen stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she dropped playful hints about the eye-popping roster of famous faces quietly arriving on set. Her comments set off a wave of internet speculation that lumped every new cast announcement into the same "surprise cameo" bucket.

Bowen was referring to sports legends, musicians, and comedians slipping onto the fairway for quick visual punchlines. But industry reporting quickly differentiated Benito’s involvement from those fleeting appearances. Production trades confirmed him alongside main cast members early in pre-production, distinguishing his character arc from the quick gag cameos Bowen teased on late-night television. Benito was cast to deliver scripted dialogue, engage in physical slapstick, and push Happy's buttons on the tee box.
