Fact Check: the Truth Behind Morgan Sirianni and the Viral Couch Trapping Rumor
By James H. Sterling
Q1: Did Morgan Sirianni get stuck inside a couch?
No. Morgan Sirianni was never trapped or injured inside a couch. The viral rumor originated from a brief, staged joke she made while assembling furniture, which third-party accounts edited into a fake emergency scenario.
Q2: Did the fire department respond to Morgan Sirianni's house?
No municipal emergency personnel or fire crews were dispatched to her residence. Public records and local emergency dispatch logs show zero incident reports matching the claims made in the viral video.
Q3: Where did the rescue footage in the TikTok video come from?
The rescue footage was lifted from a 2023 municipal training video published by the Canton Fire Department in Ohio, showing firefighters practicing extraction techniques on training props.
Q4: Why did people think the story was real?
The video combined real lifestyle vlog footage with actual firefighter footage, a recycled emergency dispatch audio track, and dramatic captions. Viewers who did not examine the disparate uniforms and audio artifacts mistook the composite clip for an authentic news event.
