Fact-Check: Can You Hide Your Instagram Green Dot from Specific People?

If you prefer complete privacy over real-time visibility, shutting down the presence broadcasting system takes less than a minute. Disabling this setting removes the green badge across all devices logged into your account.
Open your profile page by tapping your profile icon in the bottom right corner. Tap the hamburger menu in the upper right corner to enter the primary settings directory. From there, follow this direct navigational path:
Scroll down to the section marked How others can interact with you and select Messages and story replies. Tap the line labeled Show activity status. On the following screen, you will find two related switches. Toggling the primary switch off immediately deactivates both your general presence indicator and the secondary sub-setting that reveals when you share an active chat screen with someone.
