Before landing the role of Pam Byrnes, Teri Polo built a steady career in network television. She appeared on Northern Exposure in 1994 as Michelle Schodowski Capra and took roles across procedural dramas. Her performance in Meet the Parents elevated her profile, leading to her casting as Helen Santos in the final two seasons of Aaron Sorkin’s political drama The West Wing (2005, 2006).
In 2013, Polo took on one of her most sustained television roles: Stef Adams Foster on the critically acclaimed Freeform series The Fosters. Running for five seasons through 2018, the groundbreaking family drama showcased her dramatic range alongside Sherri Saum. Polo later reprised the character as a recurring guest star on the spinoff Good Trouble. Her work on television highlighted a versatile dramatic performer whose comedic skill in the Fockers movies relied heavily on emotional authenticity.
