The success of Meet the Fockers hinged on director Jay Roach balancing two distinct acting traditions. On one side stood Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman, titans of 1970s New Hollywood method acting. On the other stood Barbra Streisand, bringing precise comedic timing, and Ben Stiller, an expert in cringe-driven physical performance. Polo worked directly within this crossfire.
During filming in 2004, Polo described the set as an intensive masterclass in comedic timing. Working opposite Hoffman and Streisand required actors to adjust quickly to unscripted riffs during dinner sequences. In the infamous RV travel scenes and the backyard touch football match, Polo kept the tone grounded. Without her natural, measured presence, the comedic excesses could easily have slipped into unconvincing satire.
