Everything to Know About Maga Rick and Morty: Faqs, Memes, and Canon Explained
By David Miller
The central conceit of the Citadel, that an infinite multiverse contains endless variations of Rick Sanchez, fueled fan debates about whether a MAGA Rick could technically exist somewhere out there. Franchise media has introduced hundreds of absurd alternate personas over the past decade.
The mobile title Pocket Mortys introduced bizarre canonical spinoffs like Aqua Rick, Cowboy Rick, and Miami Rick. Yet the creative team drew clear boundaries around political branding. Multiverse variations exist to satirize pop culture tropes or showcase body horror, not to endorse real-world electoral slates.
| Concept / Variant | Origin & Media | Franchise Status | Primary Narrative Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cowboy Rick & Aqua Rick | Pocket Mortys (2016, 2017) | Official Licensed Canon | Multiverse absurdity and gameplay parody |
| Fascist Rick Reality | Season 4, Adult Swim (2019) | Core Broadcast Canon | Overt satire mocking authoritarian conformism |
| MAGA Rick Fan Art | 4chan, X, Reddit (2016, 2026) | Fanon / Unlicensed Meme | Political identity projection and anti-establishment imagery |
| President Curtis Spinoff | Adult Swim Broadcast (July 2026) | Core Broadcast Canon | Institutional power parody and geopolitical absurdity |
The gap between the first two rows and the third highlights the difference between official world-building and viral internet mutations. While the show freely experiments with multiverse variations, those variations remain anchored in narrative satire rather than political advocacy.
