Does Arnold Schwarzenegger Have a Twin or Living Brother? the Facts
By Alexander Ross
On May 20, 1971, tragedy struck in Kitzbühel, Austria. Meinhard, driving while heavily intoxicated, lost control of his vehicle, crashed into a telephone pole, and was killed instantly. He was 24 years old. Police reports from the incident confirmed significant blood-alcohol levels and erratic driving speed.
Arnold was in Los Angeles training for his second Mr. Olympia title when the news arrived. Devastated and stunned, Arnold chose not to attend Meinhard's funeral back in Austria, a decision that drew intense media scrutiny years later during his political campaigns. Arnold later explained that the emotional shock, combined with an intense psychological defense mechanism built during childhood, caused him to block out the grief rather than face it publicly at home. Gustav Schwarzenegger died of a stroke just eighteen months later, in December 1972, further fracturing the family unit.
