How Ishowspeed's Smiling Gif Conquered the Timeline: a Viral Phenomenon Explained
By Maya Lin-Takahashi
Q1: What stream did the IShowSpeed smiling meme come from?
The meme originated during a live broadcast on Darren Watkins Jr.'s primary YouTube channel. While chatting with his stream and responding to chat comments, Watkins paused his loud commentary, leaned his head slightly back, closed his eyes, and flashed an unusually peaceful grin.
Q2: Why is the eyes closed smile reaction used so frequently?
The template works because it embodies multiple moods at once. Users post it to signify peaceful bliss, escaping a bad situation unnoticed, or feeling unbothered by external chaos. The ironic contrast with Watkins' normally loud persona amplifies the humor.
Q3: Where can creators find the green screen meme template?
Short-form video editors can find pre-cut green screen versions on CapCut, TikTok's native template library, and YouTube by searching for "IShowSpeed smiling green screen." Transparent GIFs are also cataloged on Tenor and GIPHY under related reaction keywords.
