Decoded: Every Girl from Atlanta Drake Has Referenced in His Music Career
By Chloe Bennett
Before Courtney, there was Maliah Michel. Drake’s public fascination with the dancer began around 2010 when he cast her as the romantic lead in his "Find Your Love" video, shot in Jamaica. Shortly afterward, he dropped her name on "Miss Me": "Someone tell Maliah I'm on fire, yeah, I gotta get her."
Their relationship quickly moved beyond lyrics into real-world romance. Drake attended her performances, flew her to Toronto, and publicly praised her craft. When the relationship ended, it produced the signature wistful melancholy that defined the Take Care era.
Maliah later spoke openly about their connection in radio interviews, explaining that Drake was intensely romantic, sending handwritten letters and calling constantly. The dynamic set the precedent for Drake's fascination with adult entertainers across Atlanta. He did not simply visit these venues as a spectator; he integrated into the staff's social circles, forming long-term bonds that blurred the line between fandom and romance.
