Across the Atlantic, Major League Soccer presents an alternative route. As reported by The Athletic via The New York Times, Atlanta United opened preliminary negotiations with Núñez's agency as they assemble a marquee signing to lead their attack.

Atlanta cleared substantial salary cap headroom and collected an unprecedented pool of allocation resources through player sales. They possess the ownership backing to offer a fully unconstrained Designated Player package that matches his wage floor without relying on loan subsidies. Núñez would step into a market tailored for physical, direct transition forwards, surrounded by technical playmakers capable of feeding early service into space.

Atlanta is running a dual-track strategy. Club sources confirm that alongside their inquiries for Núñez, the front office is holding parallel discussions with Switzerland international Breel Embolo. If negotiations with Al-Hilal drag out through administrative posturing, Atlanta has shown readiness to pivot toward Embolo to ensure their roster vacancy is filled before their domestic registration window shuts.
