Complete Bane of Arthropods Guide: Effects, Max Level, and Best Alternatives
The critical drawback of the modifier is target scope. While Smite hits skeletons, zombies, withers, and drowned, Bane applies exclusively to five specific entities:
- Spiders: The ubiquitous overworld predator boasting 16 health points.
- Cave Spiders: The smaller, venomous variant found nested in abandoned mineshafts, possessing 12 health points.
- Silverfish: Infested block parasites lurking inside strongholds and mountain biomes with 8 health points.
- Endermites: Unstable entities that spawn with a 5% chance when throwing Ender Pearls, possessing 8 health points.
- Bees: Neutral flying pollinators possessing 10 health points.
In practice, players rarely hunt bees or spend time battling endermites outside controlled enderman farms. That leaves cave spiders and silverfish as the primary practical targets during survival exploration. Cave spiders remain notorious for overwhelming armor sets through venom damage on Normal and Hard difficulties. Silverfish can quickly trigger chain-reactions, calling dozens of reinforcements out of adjacent stone blocks if an initial blow fails to eliminate them.
A specialized Bane blade solves both hazards through instant one-shot thresholds. Eliminating a silverfish in a single blow prevents it from alerting the hive.
