Chase Launches Blockbuster Savings Offers: 6.5% Rate and up to $3,000 in Account Bonuses
Securing a promotional cash bonus provides little benefit if monthly maintenance fees gradually erode the balance. Chase accounts enforce recurring charges unless the owner meets clear monthly service fee waiver criteria. The standard fee for a Chase Premier Savings account sits at $25 per month, while everyday checking accounts charge $12 per month.
To eliminate these charges on savings balances, account holders must maintain an average daily balance of at least $15,000 or link the account to a premier-level checking product. For everyday checking accounts, satisfying direct deposit criteria, typically meaning electronic payments totaling $500 or more each statement cycle, keeps the account cost-free.
The second operational hazard involves the early closure rule. Chase agreements state that if a customer closes a bonus-funded account within six months of opening, the bank reserves the contractual right to deduct the full cash reward value upon departure. Anyone chasing these offers must commit to keeping their accounts open, fully funded, and fee-exempt for at least 180 consecutive days.
