Can You Actually Save Tags on Ao3? Debunking Platform Myths
When you click the "Favorite Tag" button at the top right of any canonical tag page, AO3 does not file that topic into your user profile or reading history. Instead, the archive sends that link directly to your customized logged-in front page.
To locate them, select the main Archive of Our Own banner at the top of the site while logged into your account. On the central home page, look to the right-hand sidebar or the top section directly beneath the greeting message, depending on whether you browse on mobile or desktop. There sits the Favorite Tags module. The platform limits this section to 20 favorite tags at any given time. This restriction keeps the page lightweight and prevents database strain across millions of daily user hits.
If you click into your personal user profile, the screen showing your user icon, email details, and biography, you will find zero mention of these tags. The profile serves as an outward-facing identification sheet, not an internal navigation dock. Readers hunting for their favorites inside profile menus are searching a room that was never built.
