Brian May’s Kids and Family Tree Fact-Check: Marriages, Custody Battles, and Anita Dobson
Long before Brian May filled stadiums with red special riffs, he was a doctoral student in physics at Imperial College London. It was during this formative stretch in 1968 that he met Christine Mullen. Their courtship moved alongside Queen's grassroots climb, culminating in their wedding in 1976 just as "A Night at the Opera" cemented the band's global ascent. Mullen was a grounding presence during an era of extreme commercial upheaval. While May toured relentlessly across Japan, Europe, and the Americas, Mullen anchored the home front in Surrey.
Between 1978 and 1987, the couple welcomed three children. James, known colloquially as Jimmy, arrived in 1978, followed by Louisa in 1981, and Emily Ruth in early 1987. Yet the grinding reality of Queen's mid-1980s tour schedule took a destructive toll. By the time Queen finished the mammoth 1986 Magic Tour, the domestic seams were coming undone. May’s immersion in the rock sphere clashed with Mullen’s desire for privacy and stability, setting the stage for one of the most painful unravelings in classic rock history.
