Landing the role of Andy Goldfarb in You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah placed Hoffman opposite Sunny Sandler and Samantha Lorraine in an adaptation of Fiona Rosenbloom’s novel. The film centered on middle-school drama, but Hoffman gave Goldfarb an effortless, understated charm that prevented the character from sliding into an unlikable caricature.
The comedy debuted atop Netflix’s global streaming rankings in August 2023, scoring an impressive 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers praised the film’s ensemble energy, while teen audiences turned Hoffman into an immediate TikTok and Instagram phenomenon. Short edits featuring his dialogue and smirks generated hundreds of millions of cumulative views within two months of release.
Working under Adam Sandler's Happy Madison banner provided Hoffman with an invaluable industry education. Rather than treating the project like a rigid studio shoot, Sandler encouraged improvisation and relaxed camaraderie among the young cast. Hoffman frequently credited the experienced production crew with demystifying Hollywood mechanics, allowing him to deliver comedic timing that felt natural rather than rehearsed.
