Behind the Art: How Zoey's Character Design Captured Global Animation Fans
By James H. Sterling
Q1: Why is Zoey's character design popular for mobile lockscreens and 4K desktop wallpapers?
A1: The animation team used graphic manhwa line work, clear silhouettes, and high-contrast color scripting. These design choices ensure that character stills maintain high visual clarity and separate cleanly from background art, even when populated with desktop icons or mobile widgets.
Q2: Who provided the voice and singing performance for Zoey?
A2: The character was created using a split performance. Ji-young Yoo handled the dialogue acting and physical behavioral references, while musician Rei Ami recorded the character’s singing and rap performances.
Q3: Which cultural references most heavily influenced Zoey’s visual development?
A3: Her wardrobe combines contemporary Seoul street fashion with traditional Korean shamanism (Muism). Her weapons and clothing incorporate elements inspired by bujeok talismans, ritual silk wrappings, and ceremonial bronze tools.
