Avicii’s Secret Rehab Journals: What His Own Hand Written Words Reveal About His Demise

Your complete guide to Avicii’s Secret Rehab Journals: What His Own Hand Written Words Reveal About His Demise, including in-depth facts.

Q1: What was the official cause of death for Avicii?
Tim Bergling died by suicide on April 20, 2018, in Muscat, Oman. Official reports from Omani authorities and statements from his family confirmed he died from self-inflicted injuries caused by broken glass.

Q2: What did Avicii write about in his rehab journals?
His notebooks, written during stays at facilities like Ibiza Calm, chronicled his struggle with opioid dependence, the pain of severe pancreatitis, and profound anxiety around public expectations. His final entries reflected intense, disorienting meditation practices and a desire to detach from mental distress.

Q3: Why did Avicii retire from live touring in 2016?
Bergling quit touring to save his health. Facing chronic pancreatitis, emergency surgeries that removed his gall bladder and appendix, and panic attacks before gigs, he recognized that performing over 200 shows a year was physically and mentally unsustainable.

Q4: How did his management respond to his health struggles?
As shown in the documentary Avicii: True Stories, Bergling faced persistent pressure to maintain his grueling schedule. While his management team acknowledged his health issues, the commercial demands of the tour frequently took precedence over the extended, multi-year break he needed to recover.

Q5: What is the Tim Bergling Foundation doing today?
Founded by his parents in 2019, the organization advocates for suicide prevention, supports psychiatric research, and works with the music industry to establish better protections and mental health resources for touring artists.
