All Inside out Characters Explained: Full Roster, Cast Details, and Their New Hockey Island Roles

Riley's defining passion has always been hockey. From the frozen ponds of Minnesota to competitive high school rinks in San Francisco, Hockey Island stands as the most durable island of personality inside her mind. Recognizing this connection, Disney, ESPN, and the NHL partnered to transform Inside Out into a real-time sporting laboratory during the Disney and NHL Classic.
Following the technical footsteps of the Toy Story Funday Football alternate broadcast, this presentation converted live player movements on the ice into animated characters operating in a bespoke digital arena. Riley’s emotions didn't just watch the game from the rafters; they took positions along the player benches and inside a customized broadcast booth high above the ice.
Whenever a player took a hard check into the boards, Lewis Black’s Anger manifested on the team console, driving virtual smoke out of the arena's digital jumbotron. When power-play pressure mounted in the third period, Maya Hawke’s Anxiety scrambled around the control board, rearranging digital playbooks in real time.
This technical feat utilized Sony’s Hawk-Eye optical tracking cameras alongside NHL EDGE chip-in-puck sensor data. By rendering millions of data points through Epic Games' Unreal Engine, the production translated professional athletic performance through the filter of Pixar’s psychological models. It transformed abstract psychological characters into live sports analysts, giving families a playful, intuitive bridge into tactical hockey concepts.
