5 Unforgettable Norbit Movie Scenes That Defined Eddie Murphy’s Prosthetic Masterclass
By Chloe Bennett
The narrative tension boils over during the outdoor wedding ceremony where Norbit finally stands up to Rasputia to stop his forced marriage. Surrounded by the intimidating Latimore brothers, Norbit finds his voice just as his childhood sweetheart, Kate Thomas (played with straight-laced sincerity by Thandie Newton), arrives to expose the town-wide real estate scam. The dialogue ratchets up rapidly as Rasputia demands compliance while Norbit pushes back against years of emotional subjugation.
The sequence stands out for its delicate balancing act of tone. Newton grounds the emotional stakes, giving Murphy a legitimate romantic foil to rescue the scene from slipping into pure farce. When Rasputia loses her temper, the scene flips into full stunt action: clothes tear, wedding furniture splinters, and physical brawls break out across the lawn. Coordinating the stunt work required Murphy to alternate between Norbit's fragile posture and Rasputia's domineering physical menace across grueling multi-day exterior shoots.
