2025 Military Pay Schedule Fact Check: Debunking Early Deposit and Pay Rumors
Active duty payroll moves with mechanical regularity, but drill pay dates for the reserve component follow an entirely different protocol. National Guard and Reserve personnel often encounter inaccurate online calendars claiming drill pay distributes on the 1st or the 15th alongside active forces. That is almost never how reserve disbursements operate.
Reserve drill compensation is triggered by the submission and certification of the unit drill attendance roster (DA Form 1379 in the Army National Guard, or equivalent branch documentation). Once a unit administrator submits unit performance records through the Defense Joint Military Pay System-Reserve Component (DJMS-RC), DFAS typically processes payment within 3 to 5 business days.
Federal holidays compound these administrative delays. Bank processing holidays close the Federal Reserve ACH transaction queues. When a federal holiday falls on a Monday, such as Memorial Day or Labor Day, a drill roster processed on the preceding Thursday will sit unprocessed until Tuesday morning, delaying posting well past the informal expectations common in unit group chats.
